The Alchemist and my Personal Legend

My all time favorite book is The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho  the-alchemist– I am sure it is a favorite of a lot of us.  If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.  It is a story about a boy, Santiago, who is on his quest for treasure at the Pyramids of Egypt – it is his Personal Legend.

The book, although is just a story, is pretty much a self-help book.  It teaches us that we should all be on a quest for our Personal Legend.  We all have a mission – a reason to be here.  Some of us are in jobs we don’t like, marriages we are unhappy in, socialize with people we really don’t want to be with – all because we are afraid to change – afraid  to give up the security that has become our life.

Do you know what your mission is?   I have always had a idea of what would make me happy – what my mission would be, but  life has gotten in the way.   I found my way into my career, pretty much by taking chances, and having great bosses that gave me the opportunities to take those chances.  I left the clinical side of the health care industry to get involved in management, and then in computer systems.  Neither of these is fulfilling to me – they gave me a great career, a roof over my head, food on the table and lots of other amenities.  But they don’t fill my soul.  I am still missing something.

4 years ago, I started a new position which I thought would be exciting and lead me to other avenues that I has always wanted to explore within HealthCare IT.    All it did was make me gain weight and cause me more stress than I ever imagined.  The only good part, was I met some wonderful people who I hope will remain my life-long friends.  During this time, I felt that I needed to find a way out, and since I couldn’t just quit, I decided I would find another career path, and make some changes.  I started searching and the infamous saying from the Alchemist “when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it” – well, the universe started sending me a whole lot of signs.

I decided to go to school at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to be a health coach.  This was right up my alley – I have always been interested in food – what we eat, how we eat it, organic, GMOs – but never pursued my interests,  I thought this would be a good time to do it.  It would give me something to look forward to in this stressful job, and hopefully provide me with a way out at some point.  I am graduating June of 2016 as a Certified Health Coach.    But I feel like this is only the beginning of my mission – or my journey to find my Personal Legend.  Right now, I feel like I am Santiago in Tangier just at the crystal merchant shop – and I still have a long way to go to find my treasure.  I have a lot of plans for my path to get there.  Lots of things happening and it is so exciting.

First, my Health Coaching business is called Sunrise Holistic Health.  Check out my facebook page and make sure you like it, so you will get recipes and healthy tips.  I have more things planned, so stay tuned.  Who knows what else the universe will send my way!
